I was honored to be selected as a 2021 Hearts in San Francisco painter for one of the six large heart sculptures thanks to the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation who auctions them off to raise money for their programs. The inspiration for the Heart came from a series of my paintings, titled “Tales of the City,” that speak to the unique diversity of San Francisco. The paintings collectively represent a rainbow of different iconic San Francisco landmarks that celebrate the city and its culture. In applying that message to the Heart, I also wanted to acknowledge the burning skies from the unprecedented fires and heatwaves that have affected us recently, by painting vibrant hued sunsets as backdrops for each landmark. The heart was on display to the public March 2021 in Union Square, San Francisco. It was purchased by Bank of America to later be donated to the corporate collection of Meals of Wheels SF in their new headquarters. You can watch an interview about it on NBC Bay Area.
